Mentorship Program

Each new member of Fairleigh Early Birds (FEB) is assigned a mentor. A mentor at FEB is a member who's been with the club for over a year, knows how Toastmasters works, and is willing to help the new member improve faster.

Our mentoring program is run by the president. If you are an existing member and you would like to have a mentor, or change a mentor, please contact the president. You don't have to ask the president for a new mentor, though, you can ask another member directly and then let the president know.

Fairleigh Early Birds Toastmasters Club is a club with a long tradition. We have been around since 1980! And because we have been around for so many years, we have some very experienced members. Some have been with the club for over 20 years! These members are willing to help new members!

A mentor can help you improve faster by providing valuable feedback and tips for improvement. A mentor can also help you answer any questions you might have about a role you've been assigned to, or any other question.

At Fairleigh Early Birds, we encourage the new members to reach out to their mentors (don't be shy): ask how you're doing, ask what you can do to improve, communicate with your mentor on a regular basis. Your mentor is there to help you, please take advantage of this opportunity.

Our Meeting Format

Each club can have a modified meeting schedule. Here's how we do it at the Fairleigh Early Birds Toastmasters.

• We start a meeting with President's remarks

• President calls upon the Invocator
   - An Invocator is called to deliver an inspirational message

• President calls upon the Toastmaster of the meeting
   - The Toastmaster is the main role player in a meeting
   - The Toastmaster introduces himself/herself and calls the following Role Players, which explain their role and how they're going to do it

   - Wordmaster: gives us a word of the day that we use throughout the meeting

   - Grammarian: takes note of any grammatical erorrs, ahs and uhms

   - General Evaluator: evaluates the meeting as a whole and tells us what we did well and what we can improve upon

   - Timer: keeps a record of time -- each section has its time allocated

Table Topics Master now asks impromptu questions based on a meeting Theme
   - this is a great part of the meeting: each member that's not speaking gets to answer an impromptu question
   - each question is limited to 1-2 minutes and the member is picked after the question is asked

• We vote for best table topic anwer

• We take a 5 minute break

• We begin prepared-speeches portion of the meeting
   - We have three prepared speeches, each speech is usually five to seven minutes

• We begin general-evalution portion of the meeting
  - Each speech is evaluated by an assigned evaluator

• General Evaluator calls upon individual role players to give their reports and gives his/her meeting evaluation

• President makes closing remarks

Jokemaster gives us a joke to end the meeting

----------------
As you can see, we have a lot of different roles. Each role is filled by our current members! A Toastmaster wears many hats, and during your membership you will get to do each of the roles! Great experience.
